JSDA Policies

Class Placement

Students will be placed in classes according to age, ability and experience. Class size is limited for individual attention. Small student/teacher ratios enable the teacher to better monitor your child’s growth and training. Instructors will suggest when your child needs to be placed in a higher class.

Pointe Class

Due to the advanced nature of the class and the injury risks caused by Pointe, placement in these classes is by audition or instructor recommendation only. It is required that students on Pointe take a minimum of  3 hours of ballet per week. New JSDA students who have previously been on Pointe MUST attend an audition in order to be evaluated.  Auditions will occur before each new session.

Dress Code

All students are required to wear proper dance attire so that faculty members can monitor proper body alignment. Students must purchase the appropriate shoes after the first lesson. Play clothes are not acceptable. Dance supplies are available or may be ordered at our office.

Performance

The JSDA annual recital will be held mid June, with a mandatory dress rehearsal the week prior. To help defray the costs of the recital (auditorium, personnel, programs, etc.) an admission fee will be charged. Tickets will be available at the beginning of May.

Costume

Each class will have one recital costume ranging in cost from $48-$100. Students who choose to participate in the annual recital will be required to purchase a costume picked out by the teacher. The costume fee is due early December so that orders may be placed in January. Any students with class additions after December may be charged additional costume fees due to rush shipping.

Friend Referral and Trial Classes

Refer a friend to JSDA and they receive their first trial lesson free. If your friend registers for class you receive free JSDA apparel. Additionally, we do offer trial classes for interested students- please email the office for questions.

Missed Lessons and Weather Policy

We request that parents/students call or email the studio when a lesson will be missed. No refund will be given for missed lessons, holidays, or closings due to inclement weather. During inclement weather we follow the Fairfax County Public School closing policy. However, classes may be held if conditions improve after 12pm. Please check our website and social media pages for updates.

Make-up classes will be available through April 1st-some restrictions apply. Please contact the office for make up class arrangements.

Tuition

Your Tuition/Account Balance will be available on the Parent Portal. The Annual Tuition may be paid annually at the beginning of the year, or through a monthly installment plan on the Parent Portal. Tuition is due on the 1st day of the month ( if that day falls on a day JSDA is closed, tuition will be due the following day) Payments may be made by check, credit card, or cash. A credit card is required to be on file on your Parent Portal. Tuition that is past due will be automatically charged on the Credit Card on file-with an additional $35 late fee. If the form of payment fails, you will be contacted to provide another form of payment. JSDA reserves the right to remove a student from class until the payment is received.

Late Fees, Refunds, and Withdrawals

Tuition will be considered past due after 10 days and a $35 late fee will be applied. We do not offer refunds for tuition. A $35 bank fee will be charged for any returned checks. A $150 fee is charged for mid-season class withdrawals. Contact the office for questions concerning tuition.

Behavior

At JSDA we believe all dancers should show respect to their teachers, classmates, and the JSDA facilities. Any act of disrespect to faculty members or classmates will be brought to the parents attention.

JSDA is an Anti-Bullying facility. Any bullying behavior will be brought to the parents attention by office. If the behavior continues, the student will be asked to leave the facility.
